Evaluation question 3

What have your learnt from your audience feedback?

The identified target audience for my production consists of 16-20 yr olds of both genders, but mostly male.Throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of my music video, I have considered the reception of my audience as I wished to create the correct effect and atmosphere linked to their perspectives.

Following the completion of my production, my audience feedback has been widely positive as my targeted audience appear to relate to the themes and ideas presented in my music video. From their feedback, I was able to interpret how I used the correct urban, man-made setting and casted characters which they may associate themselves with. I have also learnt the significance of pre-production research as by evaluating different music video's of the same genre I was able to understand the key features that commonly appear in videos similar to mine. For example, from the videos I analysed, I realised several shared the themes of unity and friendship displayed through the characters, despite the rough and damaged area challenging them. I succeeded in portraying these themes within my own music video by implying the strong bond shared by the characters. Moreover, I recognised the ways in which each video was filmed, and how similar shots and angles were used in the various settings of each production. For example, the continuance of wide shots, close-up shots and long distance panning camera movement was used in similar ways in each video. The 'breaking of the fourth wall' was also displayed repeatedly as the characters mouthed the lyrics of the song back to the camera, and so the viewer watching. I subsequently involved similar filming techniques within my own music video in order to match the audience targeted by the same genre video, as their audience also apply directly to me.

Despite my audience feedback mainly being positive due to the following of my product research, improvements may also have been made to my production. For example, the adding of more characters to my music video may have emphasised the message of brotherhood and friendship already shown. This could have also impacted the viewer further as a wider variety of shots would have been taken to add to the atmosphere of the music video. Moreover, the viewers effect may have been improved through the use of several different locations rather than the select few used in my production. If improved, this may aid in informing the viewer of the surrounding urban area that the characters live in. This would deepen the audiences understanding of the characters backgrounds and may imply how they got to this stage in their lives. If I were to improve this, I would display each characters background and home situation in order for the viewer to understand each individuals daily struggles and issues. After this, I would film each character coming together with others through different methods of transport to imply their differences. However, the overall message of the production would remain the same as despite each individual characters own issues, they have come together to signify the bond of friendship and how it may support others when they need it the most. I may also have improved the scenes of fire based on my audience feedback by having the characters surround around the fire to symbolise their hope for a better future and determination to help and support each other, in order to obtain one.

In conclusion, I have learnt from my audience feedback that my production holds many positives as well as improvements which could be made. Due to my product research, I was able to target the audience for my music video correctly and specifically. This meant that the enjoyment shown from my production relates to the way my audience associate with the characters and song itself, as well as fitting the section of people who listen to the rap/grime genre. However, the improvements which could be made to my music video suggest how a more organised time management schedule could have been made in order for me to create the best shots possible to therefore have the desired effect on my audience.
